In lieu of a 3 things Thursday post, I thought I would share this year's Christmas journal format. It's finished and I have to say, I'm happy with it. I think I have created a format that will be easy and simple - read into that something that I might actually complete on time!
The purpose of the album is capture bits and pieces of the holiday with a some journaling and photos. I plan to include lists, plane tickets, bits of wrapping papers, etc and it's where I will put all of the holiday cards we receive. This year I plan to start the album the day before Thanksgiving and end it with the Monday after New Years when I head back to work.
In previous years, I stressed about doing an entry every day. To be honest, some days I just didn't feel like being creative or simply had nothing to share since it was just me and the dogs (the kids were with their father and the husband was away). So this year, I made the format a bit more flexible and didn't create a dated entry ahead of time. Hopefully, this will allow me to be more successful.
Here's the front cover. I covered some chipboard with red cardstock and created the design. The stamp says "We don't remember days. We remember moments." Thought that was appropriate for the season. I will probably have to get bigger binder rings, but for now this is what I have on hand. The rings will be decorated with ribbon and fibers when the album is complete. The cool part of the album is that I can move things around and change up the order if I want.
Inside, there are 2 envelopes I made out of cardstock - one here in the front and the other in the back. I didn't like the color of the ones I had on hand, so I traced, cut and created my own! I plan to store receipts and other misc tidbits over the next 6 weeks.
Next is about 6 or 8 pattern pages. I varied the way I cut the edges. It's hard to see in the photo, but I wanted some different dimensions to the album since the pictures and journal cards are all 4x6. Not sure exactly what will go on these pages, but I like the options it gives me.
The photos and journaling will go in these 4x6 photo sleeves. These were left over from the kids Disney albums I created in 2008. These were actually the inspiration for the whole album since I was determined to re-use these in some form or fashion. I probably will take out the cream colored inser, but for now they can stay where it is. What I haven't decided is if I will print the pictures as I go (the preferred option, I think) or print them all at the end of the season. I guess I will wait and see how many I actually take.
This shot is where the magic really happens!! This is a tray from one of my Longaberger baskets. It was the perfect size to hold all of the supplies that I wanted to use in the album. I tried to keep the embellishments simple - there are circles punched from my circle punch, strips of patterned paper to use as borders, some ribbons and fibers, and a few stickers and rub ons. I have also added my trusty mini stapler, scissors and ink. The tray is portable and will allow me to create anywhere I want.
Here's a shot of the whole album.... just waiting for it's first entry.
